All about coaching.

What does a coach do and how can coaching help me?

A coach and client work together to explore the client's life purpose, values, beliefs, dreams and aspirations.

The focus is always on results.

Coaching:

  • helps a person ascertain what they want from life

  • helps someone establish a doable plan of action

  • works to identify real or perceived obstacles blocking someone's progress

  • helps create better working environments for people

  • helps to identify/narrow down personal challenges and how to overcome them

  • encourages people to find their core strengths

  • provides techniques and strategies so people can deal with obstacles, their negative thoughts and/or mental blocks

  • is non judgemental support in a safe trustworthy environment

  • provides motivation and encouragement to help stay on track

  • works to close the gap between where someone is now and what they wish to accomplish

Why get a coach?

People from all walks of life are now hiring personal & professional development coaches to help them achieve their goals and secure personal and professional achievement. Businesses and organisations who are focused on the well- being of their staff are hiring coaches to help build capability, more positive work environments and happier, more productive staff. Setting and sticking to goals is challenging. Many people, no matter how determined they are, find they respond much better and achieve much more when they have someone to provide support, encouragement, motivation, guidance and unbiased understanding.

What topics can be covered in coaching appointments?

Coaching often focuses on a specific goal but considers and takes into account every aspect of the person's life.

This may include:

  • Personal development

  • Professional development

  • Relationships

  • Stress management

  • Career change

  • Work/life balance

  • Self-acceptance

  • Decision making

  • Self-esteem

  • Fitness goals

  • Personal happiness

What can I expect in a session?

You can expect to be asked questions that require a lot more than a one word answer. You can expect to be made to feel comfortable and safe speaking about a range of topics. You can expect to feel motivated and empowered throughout the session and you can expect to have some things to do between sessions to get closer to your goal/s. You will have my full support and I will do whatever I can to help you. I do need to write some notes but these are kept safe and secure and I use them to prepare for future sessions with you and also to help with any email/phone follow up support you may need.

How long does it take?

It really depends on each individual as there is no blanket approach when it comes to coaching. Generally the Introductory sessions are usually 75- 90 minutes. Then you would follow through with 60-minute sessions, ideally spaced around 1-2 weeks apart where I would follow up with you over the phone/email in between so you feel fully supported. Depending on your goals and the frequency of your sessions, there are a range of options and packages available including one off appointments, the Complete Confidence Programme which includes 4 one hour face to face meetings, the Complete Empowerment Programme which includes 8 one hour face to face meetings or the Complete Ultimate Programme which includes 16 one hour face to face meetings.

All programmes include weekly written action plans and ongoing follow up email/phone support and guidance to ensure you are meeting your goals. I am happy to see my clients for as long as it is beneficial and bringing about positive gradual changes. The frequency of the face to face appointments are usually weekly but can be fortnightly on request. My aim is to give you some tools and empower you to achieve your goals.

Do I have to commit to coaching long term?

No, I am happy to do one-off sessions if that works best for you although the programmes are designed to support you to achieve your short term goals to ensure you stay on track to meet your long term goals.

Is it confidential?

Yes, completely. I will not share your information with anybody, nor the fact that you are my client. If coaching is something that is funded for a client through an organisation or their work place, there may be some information that may need to be shared in order for objectives to be met but this will be discussed with the organisation/workplace and the client prior to the commencement of coaching and can reviewed.

Where are the sessions held?

I have an office at my home which has a stunning view of the Ruahine Ranges or we can meet at a location you feel comfortable with. I have seen my own coach in cafes, libraries etc . This is something we can discuss and can be flexible with. Follow up support is offered through phone calls and emails between appointments to keep you on track. I cover Central Hawkes Bay, the wider Hawkes Bay including Napier, Hastings and Havelock North as well as the Tararua Region so travel cost will be added to the package a client chooses. I will also be available over Skype if required.

Can coaching be done in groups?

Yes it can. Some businesses ask coaches to run workshops for their staff to help motivate and goal set for the year ahead. Often people are in the same job for a lengthy period of time and I hear the word 'complacency' a lot so group workshops or one to one coaching can be extremely beneficial for businesses and productivity. I have extensive experience in designing and delivering workshops to large groups and I am more than happy to meet and discuss group coaching.
